He Married Another So I Accepted My Arranged Husband Chapter 29

After returning to Lugano, I officially joined Conti Group.

The first project the technical committee assigned me was rebuilding the risk system for all European ports.

Some people worried I would simply replicate Northstar’s model.

At the first internal meeting, a department head asked me directly, “After you left Northstar, it went bankrupt in two weeks. How do we know the same thing won’t happen here at Conti?”

I projected the new project’s permissions chart onto the screen.

“Northstar’s problem wasn’t that the system was controlled by one person.”

“It was that they used my system while believing my authorization and my work were disposable.”

I highlighted the core modules on the chart.

“This new project will have complete documentation, and we will establish a rotating system for our engineers.”

“But every level of access will be clear, and every result will be credited to the person who actually produced it.”

No one in the conference room objected after that.

Once the project was underway, Marco submitted an application.

With Northstar bankrupt, he had lost his job as well.

During the interview, he looked uncomfortable.

“I always thought you and Sal were just having a bad fight.”

“I didn’t find out what really happened that night until much later.”

“Indigo, I’m sorry.”

I turned a page in his résumé.

“Did you come here to apologize?”

“No.”

“I came to apply for a job.”

“Then let’s talk about the job.”

I asked him several complex questions about operations.

His answers were sharp and thorough.

I didn’t reject him because he had once made that call on Northstar’s behalf, and I didn’t hire him because he apologized.

In the end, the technical committee offered him a three-month probationary period, following our standard process.

After Marco left, Desmond leaned in the doorway of the conference room.

“Conti’s chief engineer is stricter than I expected.”

“Were you eavesdropping on my interview?”

“The door wasn’t closed.”

I gathered my files.

“Does the Bellandi boss have a lot of free time today?”

“I came to pick up my wife for dinner.”

Then he added, “If the chief engineer is free.”

I glanced at the time.

“Give me ten minutes.”

He nodded and went to wait on the sofa outside.
