He Priced Me At A Penny So I Married Another Chapter 07
Mark held up his phone, thrusting Derek’s incoming call toward me.
“Just answer it. He says he’s been trying to call you.”
I looked at the screen and realized my phone had somehow been set to silent.
Derek’s calls filled the notification bar.
Mark answered for me and turned on the speaker. The passengers nearby all looked up.
“Lydia, tell Everett to get you off that train right now! Get off at the next stop, and I’ll drive over to pick you up.”
“Having your things shipped out is one thing. But now you’re leaning on another man. If this video gets out, what are people going to think of me?”
Everett reached over and pushed the phone away from my face.
“Turn off the speaker. People are trying to rest.”
Mark lowered his voice but still kept the phone close.
“She’s been with Derek for five years. No matter how bad the fight is, it’s still between them. If you interfere, they’ll both end up resenting you.”
I straightened in my seat and called Derek from my own phone.
His voice softened at once.
“Lydia, get off at the next stop. I’ll make Tori delete the video. You can yell at her all you want tonight.”
“You’ve said you were leaving before. When have you ever really gone through with it? You’re talking this tough now, but you’re the one who’ll end up hurting in the end.”
The carriage rocked lightly, and every now and then a lamp flashed past the window.
Whenever I went somewhere unfamiliar before, I always told Derek where I was. Even if I got off one stop late, I wanted him to know why I was delayed.
He used to say those messages were annoying and told me to just contact him when I got there.
Now I had already left his city, and he was suddenly desperate to know every station the train passed.
