He Priced Me At A Penny So I Married Another Chapter 27

The crowd gradually went quiet.

Outside, Tori kept livestreaming. She raised the backup poster higher and shouted across the barrier:

“Of course the organizers are helping her. The Hale family leaned on you, didn’t they?”

I handed the organized files to the staff.

The first thing they played was not Derek’s apology.

It was the earliest video Tori herself had uploaded.

The footage started before I arrived at the park. She showed the poster to the camera and asked Derek, “Is one cent too low?”

Derek’s voice came from off-camera.

“The money doesn’t matter. She just needs to know that someone would actually take her.”

Then came the woman demanding a car to go with me.

Derek stood there bargaining while Tori laughed so hard the camera shook.

No one in the debriefing area laughed.

Tori slammed down the megaphone and charged at the control table.

“That was Derek talking! What does that have to do with me? The part after that is when Lydia took the megaphone herself!”

A staff member stopped her.

The video kept playing.

Onscreen, I reached out for my phone. Tori backed behind Derek with my beige purse in her hand.

Mrs. Hale emerged from the crowd and demanded that she return it.

I had never seen that angle before.

I had never known how grim Mrs. Hale’s expression had been when she stepped in front of Tori for me.

She had come today, too, standing in the very back row. When she noticed me looking, she gave me a small nod.

Outside the barrier, Tori shouted even louder.

“She cut the middle out! Why doesn’t she show herself getting on the train with Everett?”

I took the microphone.

“We will.”

“From the park to the train, not one minute will be missing.”
