He Priced Me At A Penny So I Married Another Chapter 28

The sky in the video slowly darkened.

When the alert for the one-cent payment chimed, the staff paused the footage.

The organizer asked, “Who accepted the money at the time?”

The woman who had been looking for a wife for her son was there, too.

She had been standing far in the back. The moment she heard the question, she turned as if to leave. People nearby recognized her, and the path they made for her only seemed to widen the space around her.

She covered her face.

“Derek. He already refunded it.”

“I thought they were just fooling around.”

No one answered her.

The video resumed.

My quilt was pulled from the bag. My mother’s embroidered words flashed before the camera. Tori took out the scissors, and Derek grabbed my wrist from behind.

When the scissors sliced through the cotton, someone in the debriefing area gasped.

I had thought I might double over again.

But my hands only tightened around the microphone.

Everett stood where I could see him, but he didn’t come up to steady me.

He knew I didn’t need to be led away from this.

Tori shut off her own livestream and lunged for the power cord to the ring light.
