He Put His Ex First So I Found My True Mate Chapter 09

The moment my attorney left, the hall erupted.

George slammed the invoice down on the table.

“Has Mara lost her mind? She’s sending formal collection notices over this amount of money?”

“The amount isn’t the point—this is vicious.” Cynthia flipped to the last page, her face twisting. “Is she really planning to chase down every single item?”

Graham looked at them.

“You’re the ones who picked these services. Why should she be the only one paying for them?”

George stared at him as if he’d said something utterly absurd.

“This was *your* family weekend with *her*. We were guests.”

Cynthia added, “She’s always been the one to handle this kind of thing.”

No one seemed to realize how ugly that sounded.

I had booked the trip. They had made the demands. I was always the one who swiped the card, cleaned up after them, and fixed their messes.

Blair folded her arms.

“Revoking payment authorization without warning and sending a lawyer to ambush us is just plain rude. It’s not the kind of judgment a future pack member should have. Graham, deal with her, and do it quickly. Don’t let this reflect on the Whitmore name.”

The second she finished speaking, Graham’s phone rang.

It was his mother.

The moment he answered, she demanded, “Graham, what happened between you and Mara? She canceled the partnership ceremony, and half of Grayhaven already knows.”

Graham went rigid.

“What?”

“Everyone at the Moonbay Club is talking about it. Even guests for next week’s Founding Families dinner got the notice. The Whitmores do not announce a public ceremony and then cancel it overnight. What did you do?”

The line went dead.

For the first time, Graham’s face truly changed.

He called my number again and again, only to get the same automated message that my phone was off.

Finally, he opened my social media page.

My latest post was still from a month ago, from the Harvest Dinner.

In the photo, I stood in the kitchen doorway wearing an apron while the six of them sat at the table I had set, raising their glasses and laughing.

There was still a comment beneath it from Graham:

*Best hostess. Everybody loves your pie.*

Now, every one of those people was still sitting at the table.

The only difference was, no one wanted to pay for it anymore.
