He Replaced His Wife And Lost His Mafia Empire Chapter 10

The Costa advisers demanded that Dominic return my documents, my phone, and my premarital property.

Sloane stood on the staircase, wearing my robe.

The pearl necklace was still around her throat.

The moment she saw Miles, she took an involuntary step back.

Miles had met her before.

Three years ago, I had selected Sloane at a university recruitment event and introduced her to Dominic as an assistant. She came from an ordinary family and badly needed a job that could pay for her mother’s medical treatment.

I taught her how to manage Dominic’s schedule, and I introduced her to every elder and captain in the Moretti family.

Later, she began accompanying Dominic to meetings in my place more and more often.

I had once asked her if she and Dominic had crossed a line.

At the time, she held my hand and said, “Evelyn, you gave me this job. I would never hurt you.”

Now she was wearing my clothes and the necklace that belonged to the family’s hostess, yet she couldn’t look my brother in the eye.

Miles didn’t waste words on her.

He only said to the adviser, “Take a picture of her, exactly as she is now. The necklace, the robe, the signet ring in her hand—put all of it into the record and have the witnesses sign.”

Dominic stepped in front of the camera.

“This is my home. You have no right to humiliate my guest.”

Miles looked at him.

“Then what is Evelyn?”

Dominic’s lips parted.

*Wife.*

The word died on his tongue.

Because over the course of one night, Sloane had taken the wife’s bedroom, necklace, and signet ring—while the real wife had been stripped of all protection and left to freeze in the snow.

The adviser recovered my suitcase.

Some of the cash inside was missing, and someone had tried multiple times to unlock my phone.

Sloane hurried to explain that she had been afraid I was taking Moretti family internal materials with me.

“So you went through her things?” Miles asked.

“Dominic allowed it.”

Dominic again.

Sloane could walk through every door not because she understood the Moretti family better than I did.

It was because the boss had opened those doors with his own hands and made every gatekeeper obey her.
