He Replaced His Wife And Lost His Mafia Empire Chapter 18

After Dominic lost power, he turned all his anger on Sloane.

“Didn’t you say you could contact those donors?”

“Evelyn never gave me the real list.”

“She handed you twelve keys, and you couldn’t even arrange one breakfast.”

At that, Sloane finally smashed the glass in her hand.

“You said those things were simple!”

She tore off the pearl necklace and hurled it onto the table.

“I thought if I took her place, I’d get everything she had. But all you people gave me was a crowd that needed taking care of, a pile of debt, dangerous relationships, and holes that never stopped opening up.”

Dominic looked at the pearls scattered across the floor and, for the first time, saw the day of the portrait clearly.

I had straightened Sloane’s dress and then set the keys on the table.

At the time, everyone had thought it was just another performance meant to scare him.

In truth, I had already completed the handover.

Sloane went on, “You promised me Evelyn couldn’t leave you. You said the Costa family would never really pull out, and the captains would never dare oppose you.”

“Shut up.”

“And now you have nothing left, and you’re blaming me because I couldn’t hold on to what she left behind?”

Their argument was overheard by Margaret, who was standing outside the door.

She entered the room, saw the necklace on the floor, and slapped Sloane across the face.

“Get off Moretti property.”

Sloane held a hand to her cheek, but she didn’t dissolve into tears as she once might have.

Instead, she pulled a stack of photocopies from her bag.

They were records showing Dominic’s mother diverting charity funds and his father using family books to pay private debts.

All these years, while organizing Dominic’s emails, she had been preparing her own exit strategy.

“You can throw me out,” Sloane said, staring at them. “But first, you’ll give me five million dollars. Otherwise, these go to the internal council and every creditor you have by tomorrow.”

Margaret shook with fury.

And for the first time, Dominic saw that the assistant who always claimed she only wanted to stay by his side had never wanted nothing.

But he had no right to condemn her.

It was he who, in order to humiliate his wife, had brought Sloane into the family’s most private spaces and personally given her access to its secrets.
