“She made the accounting this precise so Colt would remember she spent three years with him. Next, she’ll be negotiating a breakup settlement.”
Colton sat on the sofa, his expression turning uglier by the second.
He looked at the pile of my things and suddenly asked, “What if she really just wants to end it?”
Bianca laughed.
“Colt, don’t tell me she actually fooled you.”
“How much does she make in a month?”
“After she leaves you, she’ll have to rent her own place, take public transportation, and date regular guys.”
“She’s used to the life you and the Nightfall pack gave her. There’s no way she can go back.”
The others laughed along.
“Colt, you care way too much about a charity case.”
“She won’t find anyone better out there. She’ll come crawling back on her own.”
“She might already be standing outside the door, just waiting for you to say you forgive her and give her back the Luna candidate title.”
The video cut off.
I left all our shared group chats and deactivated the phone number I’d had for seven years.
The airport announcement sounded again.
As I joined the boarding line, Colton’s assistant sent me a message.
[Siobhan, Mr. Moretti asked me to find out when you’re coming back.]
I didn’t reply.
The line moved forward.
As it was my turn to scan my boarding pass, my director called.
“The company has notified Red Sand territory. Colton will know soon that you signed a three-year contract.”
“Are you really sure about this?”
I looked at the jet bridge leading to the plane.
“Yes.”
“This time, I’m not looking back.”
