He Signed My Freedom Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 09

I lost my balance and tumbled down the stairs.

My forehead smashed into the sharp corner of a glass cabinet, and warm blood flooded my vision. The lingering damage from the wolfsbane slowed Ember by a split second; I couldn’t shift in time to protect myself.

Noah and Iris stood at the top of the stairs.

“Serves you right,” Iris said, clapping.

“That’s what you get for not giving us cake,” Noah added.

At that moment, the front door opened.

Lucian and Vivian walked in. When they saw me lying in a pool of blood, both of them stopped short.

“Dad!” The children burst into tears and ran to him. “Mom threw away our cake and said she doesn’t want us anymore!”

Lucian glanced at the overturned trash can, then at me.

“Why do you insist on making things difficult for two pups?”

I pushed myself up against the wall, blood soaking my collar.

“In your eyes, when have I ever done anything right?”

“Evelyn, you’re their mother and Highridge’s Luna,” he said coldly. “You should take responsibility.”

“The responsibility you mean is giving you heirs, keeping the manor running, and then watching you hand my authority over to Vivian?”
