He Stole My Children I Refused His Crown Chapter 28
Elliot was still handling the aftermath of the coup. Celeste and several Redhaven representatives were huddled in a corner of the council chamber. They looked shocked and furious when they saw me, but didn’t dare speak.
The chamber floor was strewn with shattered glass and overturned furniture.
Queen Helena sat alone on the ground, her gown in disarray. The power that had once radiated from her was gone, leaving only the cold emptiness of a dead end.
Elliot strode in from outside.
The deep green combat uniform made his frame look even sharper, his expression still holding the calm of someone who had just contained a crisis.
But the instant he saw the bandage on my arm, his pace quickened.
He moved me to his side in a protective gesture, then turned a cold gaze on Queen Helena.
“King Adrian died of wolfsbane poisoning. The medical records, access footage, and testimony from the captured guards all prove the order came from you.”
“You then released Lucian and attempted to seize the capital with an unregistered army.”
“The evidence has all been made public. What do you have to say for yourself?”
Queen Helena slowly lifted her head.
Her gaze passed over Elliot and settled on me.
Suddenly, she let out a small, exhausted laugh.
“I was trapped in this castle for twenty-three years. I schemed against every rival, defeated every enemy. I thought if I could just seize power, I would never be abandoned again.”
“I don’t regret it.”
“Before Adrian died, he sounded so aggrieved. He said if there were another life, he would never want to meet me again.”
