He Was Reborn To Claim Me But I’m Already Married Chapter 34
Nor should you make another person spend a lifetime guessing.
Daniel took our daughter from me and asked, “What are you thinking about?”
“That I really was foolish before.”
“Who says so?”
He lowered his head and touched his forehead lightly to mine.
“You just loved the wrong person.”
I laughed.
Not far away, someone was hanging cards on the wishing tree.
Daniel asked if I wanted to write one.
I shook my head.
“No.”
“All your wishes came true?”
I looked toward Evelyn.
She was saying something to her husband, her face bright with laughter.
Then I looked at Mother and Grandmother.
Their mouths were still arguing, but their arms remained linked.
Finally, I looked at the daughter in Daniel’s arms.
She had put the flower crown back on crookedly and was trying very seriously to find the little blossom she had pulled off.
I took the flower from behind my ear and tucked it back into her crown.
“No,” I said.
“I’ll still have many wishes in the future.”
I took Daniel’s hand.
“But I want to make them come true myself.”
A few days ago, our lawyer passed along a message.
Adrian had given up his final appeal. He no longer asked to write to me.
He only had his lawyer deliver one sentence that had come two lifetimes too late.
He said:
“Claire, I hope the rest of your life is peaceful and happy.”
I did not reply.
So there had come a day when he truly wished for my happiness.
Only now, my happiness had nothing to do with him.
The wind rose off the Charles River.
Petals fell onto the water and were quickly carried away by the current.
Up ahead, my daughter called for me.
Daniel stopped, too, and turned to wait.
I did not look back at the river again.
In my previous life, I trapped myself in a love that was wrong from the start, and even in death, I refused to be the first to let go.
In this life, I saved my sister, and I received the embrace my mother had owed me for years.
But the person who truly saved me was not rebirth, nor was it anyone’s prayer.
It was that I finally learned to turn around and walk toward the life I chose for myself.
Smiling, I hurried to catch up with them.
The sun was bright.
And so was the road ahead.
The End
