His 47 Seconds Of Silence Cost Him Everything Chapter 04

I found out later that after Evan saw the report, he rushed to the hospital without even grabbing his coat.

But the room I had occupied was already filled by another patient.

The attending physician pulled up my chart and looked at him coldly.

“When the patient was brought in, she had abdominal trauma and severe bleeding. She was already showing signs of a threatened miscarriage. She had a prenatal appointment scheduled for that day, but she never made it.”

Evan’s lips went white.

“The baby… is really gone?”

“Eleven weeks. We couldn’t save it.” The doctor closed the chart. “When she woke up, no family was with her. She handled her own discharge. Before she left, she kept repeating that this wasn’t an accident.”

Evan slid down the wall and sat on the floor, his whole body shaking as he covered his face and sobbed.

By the time Linda and Mark arrived, he was still sitting in the hallway.

After Mark read the miscarriage report on his phone, his face turned ashen. He finally remembered that when I had collapsed on the boat ramp, begging them to call an ambulance, he had been busy praising Jude’s performance.

But Linda just grabbed the doctor, demanding, “Are you sure there isn’t some mistake? She could still talk when it happened!”

A nurse nearby recognized them.
