His 47 Seconds Of Silence Cost Him Everything Chapter 05
“She had blood all over her pants and kept saying her stomach hurt. But you were all too busy celebrating around that child to even turn and look at her.”
Linda froze.
Her phone was still vibrating.
Cassidy was texting, asking when they were coming back to cut the cake.
When Evan returned to the lakeside cabin, Cassidy immediately ran up to him, her eyes red.
“I didn’t know Mara was pregnant. If it’ll make her feel better, I’m willing to apologize.”
“Show me the group chat where you planned this.”
Cassidy’s expression faltered. “It was just a joke. Besides, I didn’t bring the iPad.”
Linda instinctively started to make an excuse for her, but Mark grabbed her arm and stopped her.
Evan called his lawyer on the spot. The lawyer gave him one, sharp warning: “The original video, the shared cloud album—any of it could become evidence. Don’t delete a thing.”
He opened their family cloud storage and found a deleted video compilation in the trash folder.
In the footage, Cassidy was instructing them where to hide the phones, when to scream, and how to push me into running down the boat ramp.
The color drained from Cassidy’s face.
“I just had a stupid idea. I didn’t want her to fall…”
Evan didn’t look at her.
He shut off the video and called the dock office to request the surveillance footage from that afternoon.
