His Fake Proposal Led Me To My Real Husband Chapter 08
All the color drained from Mason’s face.
My mother stood up from the first table.
She looked at Mason, her voice quiet but firmer than I’d ever heard it.
“Mason, I used to think you were just busy with work, that you had a quick temper. I kept telling Becca to be more understanding.”
“Only today do I realize that it was never about time. You just never took her seriously.”
Mason turned to my mother, and for the first time, I saw something like fear on his face.
“Mrs. Walker, I…”
“Don’t call me that anymore.”
My mother cut him off with a raised hand.
“For all these years, Becca has been apologizing to you, over and over, even for things that weren’t her fault. Every time I saw it, my heart broke.”
“She’s my daughter. I didn’t raise her to go to someone else’s family and prove she was worthy of being loved.”
My mother turned to Julian. There were tears in her eyes, but her expression was steady.
“Julian, I remember when you two were just children. Thank you for coming today.”
Julian inclined his head slightly.
“It’s what I should do, Mom.”
The word came out so naturally.
When Mason heard it, his pupils contracted.
He finally understood. Julian wasn’t some random stand-in I’d dragged here at the last minute. We had a past, one he was never a part of.
Tyler was still muttering on the side. “It’s not like you really lost anything. Did you have to take it this far?”Â
