His Fake Proposal Led Me To My Real Husband Chapter 22

The soup simmered on the stove, sending up a gentle steam.

I sat at the dining table but didn’t open the attachments right away.

Julian turned down the heat and came over.

“Do you want me to look through them with you?”

“Yes.”

He sat down beside me, but he didn’t touch the computer.

I opened the earliest screenshot first.

It was from my birthday four years ago. In the group chat, Mason had said I’d waited from morning until night, and as long as he showed up for ten minutes, I wouldn’t stay mad.

Tyler had replied with three laughing emojis.

Natalie had asked: *Are you really not going? She booked a table.*

Mason had replied: *Let her wait. She needs to learn that her plans aren’t the most important thing in the world.*

The next screenshot was from just before Thanksgiving.

Someone asked Mason why he hadn’t told his parents I was coming to their house.

He replied: *Let her prepare first. The more seriously she takes it, the more obedient she’ll be in the end.*

I stared at that line for a long time.

So even the moments I had written off as carelessness had been part of their plan.

Julian pushed the bowl of soup a little closer to me.

“Have a few sips first.”

“I’m fine.”
