His Fake Proposal Led Me To My Real Husband Chapter 34
He set down the fruit and nodded seriously.
“Understood.”
That evening after dinner, the lawyer called.
“Patricia has also agreed to withdraw her letter, but she refuses to apologize publicly.”
“She says she never named you or insulted you online.”
“We have the full ballroom video.”
“She says she was speaking in the heat of the moment.”
I asked, “When is Tyler signing the settlement?”
“Tomorrow.”
“Then leave Patricia’s part in the file.”
The lawyer paused.
“You’re not planning to pursue damages from her?”
“The consequences she’s facing aren’t something money can decide.”
After Whitfield rejected the investment, several of the Westbrook family’s long-term partners also requested to reevaluate their projects.
No one said it was because of me.
They had simply seen that when Patricia ran into a problem, her first instinct was to threaten, cover up, and shift the blame.
The recording didn’t create those flaws in her.
It only let other people see them.
A week later, Patricia resigned from two charitable committees.
Mason also withdrew from the investment proposal he’d been leading.
He didn’t go bankrupt, and he didn’t lose his entire life.
But for the first time, he had to bear the consequences of something that couldn’t be fixed with gifts and apologies.
That night, he sent one final email to my lawyer.
*Please tell Rebecca that every apology I made was sincere.*
The lawyer asked if I wanted to reply.
I said, “No.”
Before closing her laptop, she asked again, “Not even one line?”
“One line.”
I looked at the leaves moving in the wind outside the window.
“Tell him every apology was true.”
“It’s just that every one of them came too late.”Â
