His Jealousy Sent Me Straight To The Ivy League Chapter 08

But things had gone in the exact opposite direction.

He wanted to trap me.

Instead, he had pushed me straight into Princeton.

I almost laughed.

Mr. Sullivan must have thought I was still hesitating, because he added, “Both schools are offering full scholarships. The program resources and faculty fit are a little different, so you can—”

The office door suddenly opened.

Conrad stood in the doorway, holding two slushies.

He glanced around the room, and his gaze landed almost immediately on the document in front of Mr. Sullivan, the one stamped with the Princeton crest.

The expression on his face froze.

“Inez… what is this?”

I looked at him.

His eyes flicked between me and the papers, and one of the slushies tilted in his hand.

Mr. Sullivan looked up and asked me, “And this is?”

“A classmate,” I said. “Just passing by.”

Conrad was still smiling, but the expression was strained.

“Inez, what’s going on? Princeton… you actually applied there?”

I didn’t answer.

Ms. Davison stood and politely ushered him toward the hall.

“Conrad, we’re still in the middle of something here. Please wait outside.”

He was guided out of the room.

Before the door shut, he looked back at me.

It wasn’t concern on his face.

It was pure, unfiltered disbelief.

Once the door closed again, Mr. Sullivan slid the admission intent letter toward me.

“You can go home and discuss it with your family. Just give us your answer within three days. Princeton and MIT offer different paths, and you can—”

“Princeton,” I said.

He stopped.

“You’re sure?”

“I’m sure.”

I signed my name.

My hand was perfectly steady as the pen touched the paper.
