His Jealousy Sent Me Straight To The Ivy League Chapter 16
Conrad never contacted me again.
Not for a day, or two.
For two full weeks.
Later, I heard from a neighbor that his mother had taken him back to their hometown overnight. The house next door was emptied out soon after.
Mallory came over almost every day during that time.
“You really don’t regret it?” she asked me more than once.
“I don’t.”
“Classes start in September. When are you leaving?”
“Late August.”
While helping me pack, she found a small box buried in the back of a drawer.
“What’s this?”
I glanced over.
Inside was a 3D-printed model of the ugly cat from my meme, posed mid-punch.
Conrad had given it to me for my birthday last year.
I reached over, picked it up, and dropped it straight into the trash can.
Mallory didn’t say a word.
In mid-August, the case reached a conclusion.
Because I ultimately hadn’t suffered any actual academic loss, and because Conrad was only seventeen, the prosecutor agreed to send the matter through a juvenile diversion program.
The result was a formal warning and community service.
Through a mutual family acquaintance, Conrad’s mother sent over a handwritten letter of apology.
It was meticulously worded.
After my mother finished reading it, she said only one thing.
“The legal matter is over. But from now on, we have no reason to be in contact with that family.”
I said, “Okay.”
