His Love Is Not Visible Chapter 09
Garrett was back.
Vanessa and Ryan stood beside him.
We looked at each other for a moment.
My husband had been in the hospital, and I had been at home, sleeping. I’d worked all night, and I really had forgotten.
Ryan’s tone was openly sarcastic.
“Looks like you slept well.”
I didn’t respond.
Garrett glanced at him.
“I’m fine now. You two can go.”
Vanessa nodded at me, a faint smile on her lips.
“Hi. I’m Vanessa, Garrett’s friend.”
“Laura.”
After they left, only silence remained.
Garrett spoke first, his voice still a little hoarse.
“I’m fine.”
I nodded.
“That’s good.”
Then he said my name suddenly.
“Laura.”
“I’m leaving for Boise tonight. A business trip.”
I was a little surprised. He had just been discharged.
“Okay.”
He needed to pack.
When we were newlyweds, I had loved packing his suitcases, even matching his ties to each day’s meetings.
Now, I had no desire to do any of it.
We went our separate ways to take care of our own things.
After dark, his assistant, Marcus, came to pick him up.
I opened the door, exchanged a polite greeting, and went back into the study.
A few minutes later, Garrett pushed open the study door.
“Laura, I’m leaving.”
“If nothing changes, I’ll be back next Wednesday.”
I looked up at him.
It was the first time he had ever volunteered his full itinerary.
I smiled faintly.
“Okay.”
My own work was busy, and I didn’t remember the date he’d given me.
During the days he was away, I hardly thought about him at all.
