His Number Changed So I Changed My Life Chapter 05
On the drive, Austin asked, “You’re not planning to fight him in court?”
“If he agrees to the terms, I’ll file for an uncontested divorce.”
My mother’s birthday was in a few days.
She had a congenital heart condition and had suffered serious complications while pregnant with me.
When I was in eighth grade, I confronted my father about his affair. The ensuing argument triggered an attack, and my mother was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.
After that, I never confused impulsiveness with courage again.
She had called me that morning, and I’d answered all her questions in a perfectly normal voice.
She even asked when we were planning to have children.
For years, Parker’s filming schedule had been our excuse for putting it off. Later, tests revealed he had a hereditary condition that affected his fertility, and his chronic lack of sleep had lowered his sperm count.
I touched my stomach.
My period was late this month.
I hoped it was just stress.
My phone lit up with two texts from him.
*Lottie, I’m going out of town for a few days.*
*When I get back, we’ll make our marriage public.*
I was still staring at the second message when our car was rocked by a sudden impact from behind.
My body jolted forward, the seatbelt biting into my chest.
Austin swore, steadying the car.
“Someone just rear-ended us.”
