I Died In His Arms Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 19
In the end, Adrian took his men and left.
Callum changed the terms of the investigation. I was barred from leaving the capital, but I was allowed to remain at home and be questioned under the observation of a Royal Council representative.
To prevent anyone from trying to frame me, he kept watch outside my door that night.
The window wasn’t fully closed.
Through the gap, I saw him sitting on the sofa in the corridor, turning the pages of a book. Moonlight lay across his pale forehead, his light-colored lips, the clear veins at his wrist.
This man, who looked so fragile, had once been a border commander.
Somewhere deep in my memory, there really did seem to be someone like him.
After hesitating for a long time, I finally asked, “Callum, have you ever been to Summit Ridge?”
The hand turning the page stopped.
He looked toward me and raised a brow.
“You little liar. So you finally remembered me?”
I pressed my lips together.
“That was the most humiliating period of my life. Can’t you just forget it?”
When I was thirteen, I broke the piano my mother forced me to practice on every day.
She shaved my head and sent me to a closed disciplinary school in Summit Ridge.
The school confiscated phones and was miles from any Pack road. The staff made children labor in the bitter cold, using hunger and humiliation to force obedience.
I nearly starved to death there.
In the part of my life I least wanted to remember, Callum and I had met for the first time.
Callum gave a soft sigh.
I thought he was going to comfort me.
Instead, he said, “What a coincidence. That was the most wretched period of my life, too.”
“Because I originally went there to kill myself.”
