I Died The Day My Husband’s Girlfriend Did A Magic Trick. Chapter 06
Caius coughed, yanked off balance, and raised his hands to pry the officer’s fingers away.
“You’re way out of line.”
“Meredith is always pulling stunts like this. Yesterday, she pretended to be dead inside a magic box.”
Josephine rushed over, her eyes red, and clung to Caius’s arm.
“Officer, this really isn’t Caius’s fault.”
“Meredith ruined my performance yesterday, and today Mrs. Hawthorne came here to cause trouble. This has been hard on us, too.”
Leo ran down the stairs, pointing at my mother and shouting, “Grandma is bad!”
“Take her away! Don’t let her bully Josephine!”
I floated in midair, looking at the child I had raised, my heart a hollow ache.
The paramedics were still performing chest compressions.
Finally, someone called out, “She’s back! We have a pulse! Let’s get her in the ambulance, now!”
The stretcher was quickly carried out.
Only then did the young officer release Caius and pull handcuffs from his belt.
“Now, please come with us.”
Caius rubbed his neck and actually let out a cold laugh.
“Investigate what? Meredith disrupting a performance?”
The officer took out a crime scene photograph and held it right in front of his face.
“Last night, a discarded magic box was found at the South City waste station.”
“There was a large amount of human blood inside, along with severed human tissue.”
