I Died The Day My Husband’s Girlfriend Did A Magic Trick. Chapter 13
“Have you forgotten what you used to say about her when you were in my bed?”
“You said you were sick of looking at her.”
“When I drove the knife in, the box shook. You were sitting right there in the front row. Are you telling me you really couldn’t tell?”
“Deep down, you were dying for her to disappear.”
It was as if she had ripped open the filthiest part of his soul. Caius completely broke.
He slammed his body into the glass again and again, as if he could charge through and strangle her.
“You seduced me!”
“If it weren’t for you, Meredith wouldn’t be dead!”
The two of them screamed curses at each other through the glass, each desperate to pin the blame on the other.
Behind them, the detective watched the scene and pressed the record button.
Meanwhile, in a room at child services, Leo sat on a sofa in the corner, clutching a worn-out teddy bear that had been washed nearly white.
It was the one I had bought him for his third birthday.
He hadn’t seen Caius in days. He was surrounded only by unfamiliar social workers.
A female social worker knelt down, her voice gentle.
“Leo, try to think carefully.”
“On the stage that day, what did the knife Josephine was holding look like?”
Leo bit his lip and whispered, “It was very shiny.”
“Josephine said that if she stabbed Mom just once, she would fall asleep.”
He looked down at the bear in his arms.
“But a lot of red stuff came out of Mom.”
“Dad said it was ketchup, but it smelled really bad.”
