I Gave The Prince To My Sister And Found My True Mate Chapter 09

My mother agreed to my request quickly.

In her eyes, as long as I didn’t fight Rosalie over the crown prince’s engagement, it didn’t matter who I married.

I sent Caleb an email through an encrypted military account.

It contained only one sentence.

“Come back to the capital and marry me. As soon as possible.”

I was afraid Lucian might have awakened with memories of our past life, too.

The night wind slipped through the window, and I shivered.

Footsteps sounded outside the door.

A staff member knocked and said, “Miss Audrey, Commander Warren has arrived.”

I stood there for several seconds, stunned.

So soon?

I threw on a coat and went down to the first-floor reception room.

A man in a black combat uniform stood with his back to me before the floor-to-ceiling windows.

He was tall, broad-shouldered. Even unarmed, simply standing there, he carried the oppressive force of someone fresh off a battlefield.

Hearing my steps, he turned.

This was the first time I had seen Caleb Warren since my rebirth.

He had a strong brow and pitch-black eyes. His features weren’t refined and gentle like Lucian’s, but there was a rugged handsomeness to him, as if honed by cold winds and war.

“Audrey.” He nodded to me, his voice low.

I looked at him and suddenly remembered the night he died in my previous life.

Why was it that a man who loved me like that had never once received a serious look from me?

Caleb and I had known each other since childhood.

When I was stranded in a small town near Northwatch, he used to secretly leave food for me and chased off anyone who bullied me. Later, when the Porter family found me, he left for the Royal Guard Academy.

We stayed in touch until adulthood, when status and distance pulled us apart.

I had always thought of him as an older brother, and I had assumed he saw me only as a younger sister, too.

After a long moment, I said softly, “Caleb, I want to marry you.”

His heartbeat jumped violently.

With a werewolf’s sharp hearing, I heard that single, sharp thud.

“Audrey, don’t joke about something like that.”

I lifted my eyes and met his.

The feeling in them was too deep, too hot—like a fire buried for years beneath northern snow, and someone had finally moved the last block of ice.

I took a step toward him.

“I’m not joking. I want to register as your chosen mate, and I want to go north with you.”

Caleb looked at me for a long time without speaking.

At last, the tense line of his mouth curved into a slight smile.

“Okay.”
