I Gave The Prince To My Sister And Found My True Mate Chapter 11
My heart plunged, and I couldn’t help but look up.
He was looking at me, too. His eyes were like deep, lightless water, impossible to see to the bottom of.
“What was I like before?”
Lucian didn’t answer.
He only watched me for a long time, then said something that nearly buckled my knees.
“Audrey, you and I have already lived through this once.”
The chapel’s heating hummed softly. Beyond the stained glass came the distant sound of traffic.
I clenched my sleeve so hard my nails nearly dug into my palm.
What had he just said?
Lucian stepped closer, lowering his voice to my ear.
“When you died, I wanted to die with you.”
I jerked my head up and met his reddened eyes.
He really did remember.
All those memories severed by death, all the things I had thought buried forever—he remembered every single one.
“So what?” My throat was so dry it hurt. “You remember. And then what?”
Lucian faltered.
“I want to make it up to you.”
“How?”
I took a step back, putting distance between us.
“In this life, all I want is for you and Rosalie to get the ending you both want.”
Lucian’s face changed.
“Audrey—”
“Please don’t call me that,” I cut him off. “We have no personal relationship.”
I moved around him toward the door, but he suddenly grabbed my wrist.
His grip was terrifyingly strong, almost enough to crush bone. My wolf immediately went on alert, urging me to shift just to fight back.
“Listen carefully.”
Lucian lowered his voice. The gentleness in it had warped into something dangerous, something I had never heard from him before.
“In this life, I won’t let you leave me again.”
I turned my head to look at him.
The chapel light filtered through the glass in bars of brightness and shadow, splitting his handsome, gentle face cleanly in two.
“Is that a threat?”
Lucian released my hand and slowly curved his mouth into a smile.
“No.”
“I’m trying to win you back.”
