I Gave Up Treatment Not Them Chapter 06

The nurse’s words hit them like a sledgehammer, leaving their minds buzzing.

“How is that possible? Why would she give up treatment? We clearly already found a donor for her…”

The nurse hadn’t intended to engage, but hearing this, she couldn’t help but retort, “Your so-called ‘finding a donor’ meant letting the donor run away 99 times while your daughter endured the torture of her illness?”

In that moment, guilt and regret finally rose in their eyes, impossible to hide.

Dad’s lips trembled violently. “It’s all my fault. If only we had done the surgery sooner…”

Jacob clenched his fists tight, his eyes rimmed with red. “I won’t believe it until I see her with my own eyes.”

He turned and ran out.

Julian said nothing and followed him.

Judging by their direction, they were heading to the police station.

Sure enough, when Mom and Dad caught up, they found him and Julian slumped on the ground, looking like they had lost their souls.

In his hand was a cremation certificate.

Dad’s throat tightened as he pressed, “What happened? Where is your sister?”

Hearing this, Jacob looked up, his eyes already wet. “Mom, Dad… she’s really gone. She…”

The rest of the words stuck in his throat, turning into choked sobs.

Mom’s vision went black, and she nearly collapsed to the ground.

Dad grabbed Jacob by the collar, wanting him to continue, but Jacob couldn’t get a word out.

It was Julian, standing to the side with a pale face, who explained, “After giving up treatment, she only had one month to live. When we saw her at the restaurant back then, it was because she had been to the funeral home. While we were keeping Victoria company, she was lying at home all alone until her heart stopped beating completely…”

Dad instantly let go, muttering to himself, “How could this happen? That day, we even told her to hurry up and die. How could I say such vicious things to her…”

Tears burst from Mom’s eyes. “I am sorry. I know I was wrong.”

As if confessing his sins, Julian said word by word, “She arranged her own funeral services. She asked them to scatter her ashes into the sea. She didn’t want to leave us a single thing to remember her by. She had completely given up on us.”

“We were all wrong…”

I watched quietly as they wept bitterly, but my heart no longer held any ripples of emotion.

Their regret came too late.

When I was alive, they hurt me over and over again.

What use is regret now? I’m already dead.

It wasn’t until dark that they returned home, looking like walking corpses.

Seeing them return, Victoria immediately rushed up to greet them. “Where is Sarah? Is she still refusing to come back with you?”

Hearing my name, they couldn’t hide the sorrow in their eyes.

Dad explained weakly, “She won’t be coming back. You don’t need to be afraid of the donation anymore. It won’t be needed ever again.”

A flash of joy flickered in Victoria’s eyes.

“Did something happen to Sarah? What happened to her? I’m already prepared to donate to her. As long as she’s not angry, I can go do the surgery with her right now.”

Watching her act like that, I felt nothing but disgust.

She clearly knew I had already passed away.

“If you were truly that worried, you wouldn’t have run away every time we got close to the operating room.”

Jacob snapped, “There’s no need. Sarah… is gone. What good is donating now?”

Victoria looked completely shocked. “How could that be? She was so young. How did it end like this? It’s just so heartbreaking…”

Her tone was filled with regret as she affectionately took her mother’s arm to comfort her. “Please, don’t be too sad.

“Even though Sarah is gone, I’ll take her place and stay by your side forever.”

She had assumed they would be overjoyed to hear her say that.

But Victoria never expected that they wouldn’t even acknowledge her words; instead, they simply looked at each other in silence and went upstairs.

Watching them leave, Victoria stomped her foot in a fit of rage.

“I refuse to believe this. Am I really losing to a dead person? Sooner or later, I will replace her in every way.”
