I Made His Wife’s Dress Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 17
“Sabine, stop.” Adrian seized her wrist.
She shook him off. “Let me finish!”
“Clara, I know I was despicable. But after that night, I really was pregnant. Adrian thought the baby was his, and I thought… I thought maybe fate had finally given me a chance.”
“One chance?” I looked at her. “The wedding dress, the marriage, five years, fourteen silhouettes, countless interviews—which part of that only happened once?”
Her sobs caught in her throat.
“Even if the first step was a lie, every step you took after that was with your eyes wide open.”
The room fell silent except for the steady beep of the heart monitor.
Then my mother spoke.
“Clara.”
I turned immediately.
She was looking at Sabine, her expression exhausted but clear. “The child isn’t Adrian’s.”
The words didn’t come from nowhere. Years ago, my mother had a lawyer preserve a copy of the hotel keycard log Adrian had given her, along with the messages and the timeline. The evidence could prove his doubt, but not the child’s paternity. She had chosen to speak today because, once again, Sabine was preparing to use tears to write the ending for everyone else.
