I Made His Wife’s Dress Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 16
“I thought all night about what you said yesterday,” Adrian said, standing by the window. “I still have that pattern from when you were thirteen. Every one of your labels that was torn off—I had them all archived, too.”
“So?”
“What happened back then wasn’t what you think.”
“You canceled our engagement. You married Sabine. You let her stand beside you as both designer and wife. Which part of that wasn’t exactly what I saw?”
His lips moved, but no sound came out.
Suddenly, Sabine set down the soup bowl and walked over to me.
“It was my fault,” she said, her voice choked with tears. “That night, Adrian was drunk and he mistook me for you. I could have left, but I was so jealous of you. I just wanted one time—just one—when I wasn’t the one standing beside your fitting mirror.”
Adrian’s knuckles turned white as his fingers pressed into the windowsill. “You told me then that Clara already knew, and that she’d never forgive me.”
She avoided his eyes. “She left overnight. I only said what was true.”
“No,” I said. “You wrote my ending first, then used my leaving to prove it was true.”
