I Made His Wife’s Dress Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 28

Then Sabine looked at me.

“You win,” she said. “You didn’t even have to do anything. All you had to do was come back, and Mom, Adrian, Grandfather—even the old dressmakers—everyone remembered you again.”

“I came back for Mom.”

“Then why did you stay away for six years? You couldn’t bear to look at this city, and you couldn’t bear to look at that wedding dress. You left everyone here to clean up the wreckage while you got to start over in Paris, playing the victim.”

She drove every word into the tenderest place she could find.

I let her finish before I asked, “Do you know why you always had to wear my clothes?”

Sabine’s lips trembled.

“Because you never believed that without my silhouettes, you were worth looking at.”

“And what about you?” she shot back. “Didn’t you hide in a place where no one knew you just so you could put your name on things again?”

“Yes,” I said. I didn’t deny it. “That’s why I came back. Not to take your place, but to take back my name. Your place is something you have to find for yourself.”

It was like she had wound up for a punch and hit nothing but air.
