I Saved His Daughter And The Mafia Boss Won’t Let Me Leave Chapter 07
My jaw tightens. I look at this woman and I don’t even try to be polite.
“Who the hell are you? Were you raised in a sewer? ‘Cause you sure talk like it.”
Her face goes red so fast I can almost hear it.
“I’m sorry — did a nanny just talk back to me?”
Her husband grabs her arm, panic all over his face. “Sandra! Enough!”
“Do you even know who these people are?”
She shakes him off like a bug.
“Oh, you’re scared of him? That’s cute. I’m not.”
“Come on. Everyone and their mother knows Roman Ashford’s been out of the game since that crash. His uncle’s been running the show for months.”
She jabs a finger at Roman without even looking at him.
“My family just closed a deal with his uncle. We’re talking real money. So no, I’m not losing sleep over some man who can’t even stand up.”
Her husband goes white. Actually white. Like the blood just left his face.
“Have you completely lost it? He’s still the head of that family — you don’t get to—”
Sandra rolls right over him.
“Head of what? The man couldn’t keep his own wife. He’s running on fumes and a last name.”
Parents are openly staring now. A teacher rushes over, doing that thing where she’s clearly freaking out but trying to stay professional.
“Ma’am, please — we’re at a school. There are children present. Could we maybe take this somewhere—”
Sandra doesn’t even let her finish.
“My brother is Tommy Brennan. Brennan Construction? He just wrote a check for an entire science building at this school.”
“I’ll say whatever I want, wherever I want. And you’re not going to do a thing about it.”
She turns to the teacher with this nasty little smile.
“Oh, and while I have you — keep that girl away from my son.”
She points at Lily.
“She doesn’t talk. She just stares like some creepy little ghost. Who knows what’s going on in her head.”
Lily’s face has gone chalk white. She’s pressed so hard against my back I can feel her heartbeat.
Sandra yanks her own kid by the arm and gets louder. She wants everyone to hear.
“You see that girl? Stay away from her. She’s a mute.”
“And I don’t care what anyone says — that kind of thing rubs off.”
Lily’s tears spill over instantly.
She shakes her head, barely a whisper. “I’m not… I’m not a mute…”
Sandra cups her ear, grinning. “What was that? Sorry, couldn’t hear you!”
Her brat of a son starts chanting. “Mute girl! Mute girl!”
Lily crumbles. She slaps her hands over her ears and drops to the ground.
Everything inside me goes ice cold.
I pass Lily to Roman.
I step up to Sandra and grab her jaw. Not gently.
The grin dies on her face.
I look her right in the eyes, inches away.
“Apologize to my daughter.”
She sucks in a breath through her teeth. “What the — get off me!”
“You think you can put your hands on me?”
“Your daughter? Oh please. Everyone knows her real mom threw her away like trash!”
“You’re the help, honey. Don’t play wife.”
I squeeze harder. “I said apologize.”
She screams. “Like hell I will!”
She whips her head around, shrieking at the top of her lungs.
“Where are my guys? Hey! HEY! Are you seriously just going to watch this psycho break my face?”
Her bodyguards push through the crowd and circle me.
Sandra scrambles behind them, holding her jaw, still screaming.
“Hit her! Mess her up! I don’t care what it costs — I’ll cover every dime!”
I look down at my heels.
Yeah, no. Can’t fight in these.
I kick them off and line them up neatly to the side.
I tie my hair back. Roll my wrists.
Then I look over my shoulder at Roman.
“I’m about to make a mess.”
“You gonna stop me?”
Roman pulls Lily closer and covers her eyes with his hand.
Then he looks past me at the bodyguards. His voice drops to something that makes the air go cold.
“Don’t hold back.”
“Handle it.”
