I Survived His Enemies But Not His Love For Another Woman Chapter 04

He flicks a glance at his men. Two of them step forward and kick the backs of my knees so hard I buckle instantly.

My kneecaps crack against the concrete. The pain is blinding.

“Boss!” Tessa throws herself out of the car and rushes in front of me, facing Dominic, talking fast. “She didn’t do it! I was right there! Mia cut her own face, I saw the whole thing!”

She doesn’t get to finish.

A flash of steel.

Dominic buries his knife into the back of Tessa’s knee. Deep. To the hilt.

Tessa screams and drops. Blood pools under her instantly.

Dominic doesn’t even blink.

“Say one more word. I’ll shove the next one down your throat.”

I watch Tessa writhing on the ground. Shaking. Choking on her own sobs. I can’t breathe.

Tessa. I pulled her off the streets when she was twelve. She’s the closest thing I have to a sister.

He knows that. He fucking knows that.

My nails dig so deep into my palms I feel the skin split.

“Dominic. I didn’t touch Mia. Let Tessa go. Now.”

Right on cue, Mia whimpers behind him. Soft. Pathetic. Perfectly timed.

Whatever was left in Dominic’s eyes just dies. Gone. Replaced by pure cold fury.

“Nobody’s taught you a lesson in a long time, have they, Sera?”

He points at me. Looks at his soldiers. His voice goes low. Quiet. The kind of quiet that means someone’s about to bleed.

“Fix that.”

Four men move toward me. Big. Eager. Grinning.

“DOMINIC!”

“YOU PROMISED! YOU SAID YOU’D PROTECT ME FOREVER!”

I scream it with everything I have left. Raw. Desperate. The one thing that was supposed to mean something between us.

He stops. His whole body goes stiff. That scarred hand tightens around Mia so hard she gasps.

But he doesn’t turn around.

One step. Two. He’s gone.

I stare at the men closing in. I bare my teeth.

“You really want to do this? You know what happens to people who cross me.”

The biggest one laughs right in my face.

“When we’re done carving up that pretty face and running a train on you, you won’t be threatening anybody ever again.”

“And who says you gotta be alive when it’s over?”

Steel flashes.

A blade tears across my cheek. The pain is instant. Blood pours down my jaw.

That one cut kills everything. Every last hope. Every last shred of belief that any of this was real.

I laugh. It sounds insane. It sounds like dying.

At eighteen, Dominic Corsetti blew off his own leg to save me. Told me he’d keep me safe until his last breath.

Now I get it. The same man who would have died for me back then can hand me over to animals for someone else. Just like that.

The hospital. A doctor finishes stitching Mia’s cheek.

Dominic sits at her bedside.

His phone screams through the silence. He picks up, irritated.

The voice on the other end is barely holding it together.

“Boss. The Valentino girl. We… we killed her.”

Dominic is on his feet before the sentence ends.

“Say that again.” His face goes white. Completely white. Like every drop of blood just left his body.

“She’s MINE. Who the fuck told you to lay a hand on her?! WHO?!”
