I Survived His Enemies But Not His Love For Another Woman Chapter 05

[Dominic’s POV]

“Boss. You told us to teach her a lesson.”

“That’s the rule. You give the order, we follow through. Whatever she did to Miss Loren, we gave it back double…”

“BULLSHIT!”

“Sera is MINE. You all fucking know that. Who gave you the right to do this to her?!”

I’m screaming into the phone. I can feel the veins popping in my neck. My vision is going red.

“Where is she?! Right now! Get her to a hospital! If anything happened to her, every single one of you is going in the ground. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE!”

I knock the chair over getting out of Mia’s hospital room. I don’t look at her. I don’t hear whatever she’s saying behind me.

I drive like a maniac. Blow through every red light between here and the west side. My hands are shaking so bad I can barely grip the wheel. My chest is so tight I can’t get a full breath.

Teach her a lesson. That’s what I said.

I said teach her a lesson.

I didn’t say this. I didn’t mean this.

I get to the warehouse and kick the door in so hard it slams off the wall.

What I see stops me dead.

A body. A woman’s body. Face destroyed beyond recognition. Lying in a pool of blood that’s already gone dark at the edges.

My men are on their knees in a row. Beaten to shit. Shaking like dogs in a thunderstorm.

“What did you do.” My voice doesn’t sound like mine. It sounds like something scraping out of a grave. “WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO?!”

“B-Boss. We just… we cut her face. Like you said. We didn’t think… we didn’t know she’d…”

I kick the one talking so hard he flips over sideways.

My eyes are burning. I can barely see straight.

“My orders?! When the FUCK did I tell you to cut up her face?! When did I say KILL HER?!”

I drop to my knees next to the body. My hands are shaking so bad I can barely control them. I reach out to touch her face.

The cuts. Deep. Everywhere. Criss-crossed over every inch. The face is gone. Completely gone.

This isn’t her. This can’t be her.

Not Sera. Not my Sera. The woman who was fire and pride and fury, who looked like a queen even when she cried.

But that body. Those clothes I know. And there, tossed on the concrete next to the blood. The anklet I gave her three years ago.

Everything is screaming at me that this is real.

“We don’t… we don’t know what happened.” They can barely get words out, choking on their own terror. “We just… cut a few times. And she stopped moving. She stopped breathing.”

“A few times?!”

I grab the nearest one by his collar and haul him off the ground. My voice is barely human.

“You call THAT a few times?!”

I look around. At these animals on their knees. At that cold body on the floor.

It hits me all at once. Like a building falling on my chest.

I gave the order.

I left her here. Alone. With these animals.

I did this.

A sound rips out of me. Not a scream. Something worse. I slam my fist into the concrete pillar next to me. Feel the bones in my hand crack. Feel the skin shred open. Blood runs down my knuckles.

I don’t feel it. I don’t feel anything except the void opening up in my chest.

I stare at the body. Tears and blood mixing on my face.

Her voice. The last thing she ever screamed at me.

“YOU PROMISED! YOU SAID YOU’D PROTECT ME FOREVER!”

And what did I do?

I broke every promise I ever made.

I killed her with my own hands.
