I Survived His Enemies But Not His Love For Another Woman Chapter 07
[Sera’s POV]
My people pull me out just in time.
While Dominic was carrying Mia to the hospital, my crew moved fast. Took out his men, swapped in a body, dressed it in my clothes, left the anklet he gave me on the floor next to it.
If they’d been five minutes later, that body would have been real.
The safe house door closes behind me and every ounce of strength I’ve been holding onto just drains out. Like someone pulled a plug.
I slide down the door until I’m sitting on the cold floor. Can’t stand anymore.
“Boss.” Tessa’s voice comes through the door. Shaky. Choked up. Her leg is wrapped in bandages but she’s still limping around, refusing to lie down. “Are you okay? I can get you something. Tea. Food. Anything.”
“I’m fine.” My voice sounds like gravel. “Go rest. Heal up.”
She goes quiet. I hear her uneven footsteps moving away.
I sit there in the dark.
I can’t fall apart right now. Not yet.
Dominic. Mia.
Every single thing you put me through. Every slap. Every cut. Every second of humiliation.
I’m coming to collect. All of it.
I drag myself to the window and pull the curtain back an inch. Outside, the city is dark. Somewhere in the distance I can hear engines. Multiple cars moving fast. Dominic’s people tearing the city apart looking for me.
I let the curtain fall closed. Shut out the light.
Go ahead. Search.
By the time you find me, I won’t be the Sera you remember.
I’ll be the thing that ends you.
The weeks that follow are quiet on the surface.
Dominic burns through every resource he has. Every soldier, every informant, every contact in every borough. He tears New York inside out looking for me.
Nothing. I’m a ghost.
But while he’s searching, strange things start happening to the people who watched my rape tape at that sit-down. The ones who laughed. The ones who whispered behind my back.
One family’s accountant gets a surprise visit from the IRS. Full audit. Every dirty dollar exposed.
Another boss finds evidence of his side deals hand-delivered to his biggest rival.
Some lose everything overnight. Gambling debts called in all at once. Others wake up in the hospital with shattered kneecaps and no idea who sent the crew.
Panic spreads through the underworld like a virus.
Everyone figures it out eventually. The woman they thought was dead, the woman they mocked and pitied and wrote off, she didn’t disappear.
She just moved into the shadows.
And she’s picking them off one by one.
