I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 47

Rowan stood there holding a wedding gown I knew all too well, his eyes full of open expectation.

“You said you wouldn’t make a second one. So I repaired the first.”

It was the gown Mrs. Hart had locked away.

Where the bloodstain had once been, a single red plum petal was now embroidered over it, covering the flaw perfectly. Scattered among the golden feathers of the white eagle, the petals somehow made the design even more beautiful.

I noticed the dense puncture marks all over Rowan’s fingertips.

“Did you embroider this yourself?”

He looked faintly ashamed, faintly uneasy. He didn’t admit it, but he didn’t deny it, either.

“You don’t have to do anything else. The gown, the ceremony, all of it—I can handle everything.”

Tessa’s voice came from the corridor, calling my name.

Rowan seemed to sense I was about to leave and said softly, “Genevieve.”

I looked at him once, then walked past him and out the door without another word.

I didn’t need to turn around to know the expression on his face—how it would go cold, as if he were staring at enemies who had stolen my attention.

It reminded me of a rabbit I’d kept as a child.

Soft on the outside, but fiercely jealous. Whenever I paid attention to someone else, it would stamp its feet furiously.

Julian had that rabbit sent away later, because he himself had been just as possessive.

But my rabbit had been healthy, soft, and adorable.

Rowan was covered in wounds—ruthless, obsessive, and willing to do anything to get what he wanted.
