If Your Heart Doesn’t Lean Towards Me I Don’t Want It Chapter 05

I looked up and saw Lucian Hawthorne.

He held me steady, his voice soft. “Coralie, you’re afraid of blood. Don’t look down. Just listen to me.”

With the last of my strength, I asked, “Lucian… how’s my mom?”

Lucian met my gaze, his tone firm.

“The doctors are with her now. She got here in time. It’s not as bad as you think.”

“Try not to worry.”

At his words, the last thread of tension inside me finally snapped. The world went black.

When I woke up, Lucian was still at my bedside.

“You’re awake. Here, drink some water.”

When I spoke, my voice was a painful rasp.

“My mother?”

Lucian held a cup of warm water to my lips.

“I moved you both into private rooms. She’s awake.”

“You, on the other hand, have been out for a full day and night.”

I took a sip. The water was the perfect temperature.

Lucian looked at me, the pain in his eyes impossible to hide.

“Coralie, they couldn’t save the baby. I’m so sorry.”

I wasn’t surprised.

The last thing I remembered before passing out was the blood pooling on the floor.

I shook my head slightly.

“This isn’t your fault.”
