If Your Heart Doesn’t Lean Towards Me I Don’t Want It Chapter 12

“Coralie, are you really going to do this?”

“Tessa didn’t mean to…”

I cut him off.

“That’s enough, Ellis. You’re still defending her.”

At last, he fell silent.

I gave him one final look.

“Your accounts are tangled together, your lives are tangled together. I don’t want any part of it.”

Then Lucian and I turned and walked away.

The day I went back to work, I had barely reached my desk before Tessa rushed over.

Her eyes were red and swollen, a stark contrast to the smug supervisor she had been.

She grabbed my arm.

“Coralie, I’m begging you.”

“Withdraw the complaint, please? I was wrong, I really was. If you want, I’ll apologize to you in front of everyone right now.”

The entire office fell quiet, all eyes on us.

Tessa was crying so hard she could barely speak.

“I don’t want to go to jail. I have parents, a future…”

A coworker I was friendly with leaned over and whispered, “She’s been unbearable since you’ve been gone, Coralie.”

“She made everyone work overtime, screamed at anyone who pushed back. What’s with the waterworks all of a sudden?”

I pulled my arm free.

“Tessa, when you pushed me down those stairs, did you think about the consequences?”

She froze.

“When you spread that video everywhere, did you think about the consequences?”

Tessa’s lips trembled. She couldn’t form a word.

“I…”

I looked at her, my voice flat.

“Since you didn’t, I don’t mind making sure you understand them now.”

The office was dead silent.

Tessa suddenly shrieked.

“Who do you think you are?”

“That video of you has been all over the internet for weeks. Everyone here has seen it. How can you stand there and say these things to me?”
