If Your Heart Doesn’t Lean Towards Me I Don’t Want It Chapter 34
Six months later, my mother slid a bank card across the table toward me.
“This is for the medical bills Lucian paid.”
“I’ve saved up some money. Take it and pay him back.”
I pushed the card back to her.
“It’s almost paid off.”
My mother looked surprised.
“So fast?”
“I got my project bonus.”
The smile crinkled the corners of her eyes.
“My daughter is amazing.”
Once, her greatest wish had been to see me in a wedding dress.
Now, she mostly asked if work was going well and if I was eating properly.
I no longer had to prove I was happy through a wedding.
After work that day, I didn’t go straight home.
Instead, I drove to the place where I had first accepted Lucian’s proposal.
He came as quickly as he could after getting my text, slightly out of breath.
“What’s wrong?”
“Is your mother okay?”
I shook my head and took out the ring I had kept in its box for half a year.
The moment Lucian saw it, he went completely still.
“Lucian, there’s something I want to say to you.”
His throat moved.
“Go ahead.”
“In the last six months, I found a new job, I won my case, and I’ve almost paid you back.”
“I’m standing here today not because I have nowhere else to turn.”
“And I’m not doing this to make anyone else feel regret.”
I held the ring out to him.
“The Coralie Ricci standing before you is clear-headed. And she is free.”
