Make Them Regret It Chapter 06
I told him no.
That night, Isabella jumped from a terrace at the estate. A patrol guard caught her before she hit the ground.
The next night, they came for me.
My older brother pinned my shoulders. My second brother held my legs. My father stood over me, a scalpel in his hand.
“We can’t use anesthesia,” he said. “It would affect the Core’s viability.”
“Blythe, just endure it.”
Colton stood in the doorway.
I looked at him over my father’s shoulder, my eyes pleading with him to save me. I mouthed his name.
He turned his face away.
“Blythe, endure it. It’ll be over soon.”
I still can’t find the words for the pain of that night.
I only remember biting through my own lip until my mouth filled with blood, fighting to stay conscious.
After the Core was removed, my abilities plummeted. I couldn’t even hold my focus for more than a few moments.
Half a month later, an important document went missing from the family archives.
The bodyguards found it in my bag.
I said I didn’t do it. No one believed me.
That day, on the stone steps before the main house, my father sentenced me to thirty lashes with a belt.
Colton walked forward and took off his own.
“I’ll do it,” he said. “Once this is done, the matter is closed.”
Thirty strikes.
Not one less.
Afterward, I lay sprawled on the freezing stone steps, unable to move. Blood soaked through the back of my dress, staining the white stone.
That night, only Gia snuck into my room. She slipped a piece of chocolate into my hand.
“Auntie, eat something sweet. Then it won’t hurt anymore.”
At the time, I thought that was the worst pain I could ever feel.
Then Isabella slit her wrists.
She said that as long as her sister had Colton DeLuca, she would always be the outsider.
And so they staged all of this.
