Make Them Regret It Chapter 17
The private chapel.
That evening, Isabella was carried inside.
No heat. No lights.
When the door shut, I stood outside and listened as one of the guards spoke.
They were the same two guards from that night. They had been punished with a life sentence, confined to the chapel grounds forever.
One of them said, “It’s only one night. Just endure it.”
I had heard that sentence once before, from the other side of these doors.
Now it was her turn.
Before she was taken in, Isabella had fought them, clinging to the doorframe, her nails scraping pale marks in the stone.
“I’m not going in! Sister, I know I was wrong! You already beat me, you got your Core back! What more do you want?”
I stood outside and looked at her.
“That night, the people in this chapel cried just like that.”
“Gia said she was cold. She cried for hours. And you sat in the main house, eating the pistachios my brother shelled for you.”
The guards pried her fingers loose and shoved her inside.
