Make Them Regret It Chapter 18
After dark, the crying started.
At first, it was just sobbing. Then came the pounding on the door. Then screams.
“Let me out! I know I was wrong! Sister, I know I was wrong!”
“It’s too cold… it’s so dark…”
“Dad! Dad, come save me! You promised you’d protect me!”
No one came.
My father stood on the drive not far away, his back to the chapel, perfectly still.
He could hear her.
But he never turned around.
That night was every bit as long as my night in the chapel had been.
At three in the morning, the sounds stopped.
One of the guards moved to go in and check on her. I stopped him.
“She won’t die.”
“My niece was twenty years younger than her, and she lasted until three in the morning.”
“She can endure it.”
At dawn, the door was opened.
Isabella was huddled in the corner.
The same corner where Gia had curled up.
After only one night, half her hair had turned white. Her eyes were vacant. The moment she saw the light, she flinched away from it, muttering over and over, “Don’t send me to Blackwood… don’t process me… don’t use me for experiments…”
Three days later, the family council’s sentence arrived.
Her abilities were to be permanently stripped, she was to be expelled from the family, and she was exiled for life to the family’s mining fields on Alaska’s North Slope, never to return.
Alaska.
She had written a script that drove others into a frozen hell and killed five women of the Romano family.
Now she was being sent to a real land of ice and snow.
On the day the private plane carried her away, another procession of cars arrived at the estate gates.
White ribbons were tied to the lead car.
It was Colton DeLuca’s wedding convoy.
He was twelve days late.
