Make Them Regret It Chapter 19

Colton stepped out of the car in a tailored black suit and walked straight toward me.

He had lost weight. His eyes were shot with blood.

“Blythe,” he said, “I’ve come to take you home.”

“I know I’m late. But our engagement still stands. You never signed the papers.”

“I knelt in the DeLuca family chapel for seven days and begged my father. He agreed. If you say yes, we can hold the ceremony today.”

“I’ll spend the rest of my life making this up to you. I’ll do anything you ask.”

He took a small velvet box from his jacket pocket.

Inside lay our engagement token: a platinum heart pendant, split in two. I had one half, he had the other. Only when joined did they form a whole.

They had once been so desperate for me to destroy it.

My father had urged me. My brothers had pressured me. Colton himself had demanded it.

For Isabella, they took my Core and had me whipped. To force me to break this engagement, they staged a charade that cost five lives, plus one unborn child.
