My Cruel Husband Let Me Die So I Married His Brother Chapter 04
“I came for my things.”
I pulled out a lighter and set the curtains on fire.
“But now that I’m here, I don’t think I’ll be needing them.”
The flames surged up the fabric in an instant.
Ava stared at the fire, trembling.
“You’re insane. You’re completely insane.”
“Daphne Moretti!” Griffin grabbed me, his voice a low growl. “What the hell are you doing? Do you think if Ava burns to death, I’ll marry you? Stop living in your own delusions.”
I shook off his hand.
“Every single thing in this apartment was bought by me. If I want to burn my own property, what’s it to you?”
“Send the bill for the building’s damages to Leo. He’ll cover it. Whatever it costs, I can afford it.”
Griffin’s face was a mask of fury, but he couldn’t say a word.
That night, Dante sent over the list of wedding gifts he’d prepared.
Looking at the familiar territories and crew names, I finally understood the look on Griffin’s face when he’d seen that list at our wedding in my past life.
Those gifts had never been from him.
They were from Dante.
Griffin hadn’t wanted to marry me, so he’d done nothing.
And I, like a fool, had thought it was all from him.
At least this time, my eyes were open.
“You’re hurt.”
I smelled blood and reached for Dante’s shirt.
The tips of his ears turned red, and he cleared his throat.
“It’s someone else’s. I’m fine.”
“But if you want to check, go ahead. I’m not like Griffin. I’m not just a pretty suit.”
By the end, he was the one grabbing my hand and pressing it to his stomach.
I pinched him.
“Go get cleaned up. We’re getting married tomorrow.”
That night, Griffin ran off with Ava.
He had left before the wedding last time, too.
Back then, I’d thought something urgent had come up and had personally sent men to bring him back.
It had never occurred to me that he simply didn’t want to marry me.
Leo called.
“Griffin says he won’t marry you. If you insist on sending men to drag him back, he’ll die with Ava.”
I couldn’t be bothered with him.
It was better if he ran.
It would make for a quieter wedding, with less chance of them pulling another stunt.
“Let him go.”
I put down my phone.
“He’s not my groom anyway.”
On the day of the wedding, the church was packed.
Looking down from the second floor, I saw there were even more people than last time.
My father wore a smile, but when he turned away, he secretly wiped at his eyes.
My father was already old when I was born.
After I died last time, he must have struggled to hold on.
Thank God things were different this time.
After I changed into my wedding dress, I was standing just outside the church doors when Griffin suddenly appeared beside me, wearing the groom’s suit.
“I underestimated you, Daphne Moretti.”
“You haven’t changed at all. You’re still just as repulsive.”
“I’ll marry you. Just let Ava go. I won’t see her again after this.”
I frowned.
“Let Ava go? What are you talking about?”
“Still playing innocent?” Griffin’s face darkened. “To force me to come here and marry you, you actually stooped to kidnapping Ava.”
“Are you satisfied now? You got your way again.”
I’d had enough.
“Got my way how? I never kidnapped Ava. And you’re not the man I’m marrying. Can you please stay away from me?”
Griffin’s mouth twisted into a sneer.
“If you’re not marrying me, then who? Everyone in New York knows you’ve spent years chasing me.”
“You’re just using the Moretti family’s power to do whatever you want.”
“Even if you drag me to the altar, you won’t have my heart. I won’t love you, and I won’t touch you. You’ll just be Mrs. Romano in name only.”
“This is the choice you made.”
Without waiting for my response, he grabbed my hand, tucked it into the crook of his arm, and shoved open the heavy doors.
“Please welcome the bride, Daphne Moretti, and the groom, Dante Romano—”
Leo’s announcement cut off abruptly.
The entire church fell silent.
Every eye in the room landed on Griffin’s face.
He went rigid and slowly turned to look at me.
“Who did he say the groom was?”
