My Cruel Husband Let Me Die So I Married His Brother Chapter 08

Then he suddenly asked me, “Daphne, you don’t actually love Dante, do you?”

“You only married him because you were angry with me, right?”

I turned to look at him, finding the question absurd.

“Why would I gamble the rest of my life just to spite you?”

“Who do you think you are?”

Dante immediately cut in.

“My wife obviously loves me.”

“She said I’m built better than you, my face is better than yours, and I don’t have an ex I’m still hung up on. Of course she loves me.”

Then he lowered his head and kissed me.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back.

When we finally looked up, Griffin was gone.

The next day, word came from my father’s men.

Griffin had stood guard outside our door all night, begging my father to save Ava.

My father, still furious, had every intention of letting him stew.

But no one expected Ava to return on her own.

Her body was covered in bruises.

“Griffin, someone hurt me. He told me to my face—Daphne was the one who put him up to it.”

“She couldn’t stand the sight of me, so she had someone ruin me. She just wanted you to be disgusted by me and throw me away.”

From the moment I walked in, Griffin had been staring silently at the marks Dante had left on my neck.

“Griffin!”

Ava panicked, tears spilling down her cheeks.

“I know I’m not worthy of you anymore. I’m willing to step aside for you and Daphne. It’s just… I don’t have the courage to go on living.”

She turned and threw herself toward a marble pillar.

Griffin caught her just in time.

Only then did he seem to snap out of his trance. He clenched his fist and glared at me.

“You have nothing to say for yourself?”

“And you still won’t admit you only married Dante to spite me?”

“This is too serious. Ava wouldn’t make up something like this just to frame you. Daphne, you’re not as unaffected as you pretend to be.”
