My Family Regret When They Lose Me Chapter 11

I glanced at it and turned off my phone.

My time was too precious to waste on them.

The day Sofia showed up at my apartment door, London had its first snowfall.

She had lost a lot of weight. She wore no makeup and looked exhausted standing there in the hallway.

“You win.”

Her voice was hoarse.

“After you left, Marco started looking at me like I was the enemy. Chloe cried whenever she saw me. She would hide.”

“I kept throwing myself at them, and in the end, I just looked pathetic.”

She gave a laugh, and it was an ugly sound.

“The things from when we were kids—I admit it, I did all of them.”

“The needle in the doll. The nuts in the snacks. And that cat.”

“Back then, I enjoyed it. The less your parents believed you, the more fun it was for me. I loved taking away the things that mattered to you.”

“But this time was different. Marco and Chloe dragged me into their mess.”

She took a breath, pulling her scarf higher.

“But I’m done.”

“I’m going to live my own life now.”

I stood in the doorway with my coffee, leaning against the frame, and didn’t say a word.

She waited a moment. Seeing no reaction, she gave a humorless tug at the corner of her mouth and turned toward the elevator.

Just before the doors closed, she looked back at me.

The calculating look she always wore was gone.

I lowered my eyes to my phone.

The call was still connected.

I lifted the phone to my ear.

“Did you hear that?”

“The Sofia you care about so much wasn’t taken by me, and she isn’t missing.”

“She just decided that being with you all was boring, so she left.”

“This has nothing to do with me. Don’t call me again.”
