My Family Sold Me To The Don. Too Bad He Was My Dog All Along Chapter 03

The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime.

The master suite unfolded in front of everyone.

Gold trimmings. Crystal fixtures. Every inch reeked of money.

But look closer, and it felt cold. Dead. Like a tomb dressed up for a funeral.

Seamus and Eileen’s eyes went wide. Their breathing got heavy.

“Holy shit… this is where Don Enzo lives?”

Eileen ran her fingers over a solid gold Madonna figurine by the door, voice trembling.

“Luciana, do you see this? If you land a spot here, the Romanos are back in the game.”

Seamus was worse. Poking at everything like he’d never seen nice things before.

“We’re rich. We’re rich. If you keep Don Enzo happy tonight, I don’t need to run anything. I’d be his dog. His goddamn pet.”

He was practically drooling. Vito and his men looked disgusted. And smug.

Then Vito turned to me. Frowned.

“Hey. What are you smiling at?”

I didn’t answer. I just let my eyes wander across the suite.

White roses on the table. My favorite.

The carpet under my feet—midnight blue. I’d mentioned that color once, in passing.

And the abstract paintings on the wall? Those weren’t art. Those were my doodles. Drawn on napkins when I was bored.

Enzo. That lunatic.

He’d turned his whole yacht into a shrine. Built for me.

Vito was about to shove me when Seamus shuffled over to one of the paintings. Reached out to touch the frame.

“This looks familiar. Like something Luciana used to scribble in her room—”

Vito’s eyes went wide. But before he could say anything, a sharp voice cut through the room.

“Don’t touch that.”

A woman strode in on four-inch heels. Perfect face. Cold eyes.

Camilla Mancini. Enzo’s chief legal counsel. Head of intelligence.

I’d heard of her. She was known for being the “most special woman” in Enzo’s life.

Acted like she owned the place. And her loyalty to him had curdled into something nasty. Something possessive.

“That’s Don’s most prized possession. You break it, your whole family’s dead.”

Camilla’s eyes swept over Seamus and Eileen. Then they landed on me.

And when she saw my face—I caught it. A flash of jealousy. Barely hidden.

“So. You’re the gift the Romanos sent.”

She walked up to me, tilted my chin up with her finger. Then her nail dug into my jaw.

I slapped her hand away.

“Enzo never taught you manners, did he?”

My voice was quiet. Flat.

Her face twisted. She wasn’t used to being talked back to—especially not by some sacrificial lamb.

Her hand came up. Full swing.

Slap.

My head snapped to the side. Copper in my mouth. Blood at the corner of my lip.

“A whore crawling into Don’s bed. And you’re lecturing me about rules?”

She was shaking. Eyes burning.

“I’m Don’s most trusted person. Everyone in New York knows my name. And you? You’re nothing.”

“What am I? Enzo will tell you himself. Soon enough.”

I wiped the blood off my mouth. Calm.

Inside, I was already running through a hundred ways to put Enzo in his place.

Enzo was a dog I’d left behind years ago. Wild, maybe.

But he still knew who his owner was.

As for the rest of them? Not worth my time.

Seamus saw the tension and panicked. He ran up and kicked the back of my knee.

“Get down! Apologize to Ms. Mancini!”

Pain shot through my leg. But I held. Didn’t budge.

“Ma! Hold her down! Make her kneel!”

My mother didn’t hesitate. She threw herself at me, pushing my shoulders down.

“Stupid girl! You want to get us all killed? Get on your knees and apologize!”

I stared at their faces. Warped by greed and fear.

My bones creaked under the pressure. But my back stayed straight.

Perfect. These were my people.

The ones I’d walked away from everything for. The ones I’d hoped might change.

“Tough bones.”

Camilla smiled. Meaner now.

She pulled out a razor-sharp utility knife. Pressed the cold blade against my cheek.

“Just the type Don likes. Feisty.”

“But that face of yours… it’s a problem.”

“Let me fix it for you. Make you a little more… memorable.”
