My Family Sold Me To The Don. Too Bad He Was My Dog All Along Chapter 04

Seamus didn’t hesitate. His voice shot up, all slimy and eager.

“Do it. Ms. Mancini, go ahead. Slice her up.”

He grabbed a crystal ashtray off the side table to prove his loyalty.

“Ms. Mancini—cutting her face up might mess up Don Enzo’s carpet. Let me break her teeth first instead. Keep her quiet. Make sure she can’t bite him.”

For half a second, Eileen’s fingers loosened in my hair.

Then Seamus whispered “basement apartment,” and she tightened her grip again.

“Yes, yes. She needs to learn.”

“Hold still. You brought this on yourself. Serving Don Enzo is a privilege.”

My own blood. Grinding my bones to dust for their gain.

Seamus raised the ashtray over his head. Brought it down at my mouth.

I jerked to the side.

Thud.

It hit my shoulder instead.

The pain was instant. White-hot. Half my body went numb.

I swallowed the blood climbing up my throat. When I looked at them, there was nothing left in my eyes.

“You’ll regret this.”

But before I could finish, Camilla’s fist slammed into my stomach.

The pain from my shoulder and the punch dropped me to one knee.

And I screamed.

“Enzo Lombardi. Get your ass out here. Now.”

She drove the knife into my cheek.

It punched through the left side of my face. Cut my tongue on the way out.

Blood rolled down the blade.

I hung my head, gasping. But every breath pulled at the wound. Sent fresh waves of fire through my skull.

Camilla laughed. Pulled the knife free.

“Don’t worry. There’s still the other side.”

I screamed again. Almost blacked out.

Camilla was loving it. She patted my good cheek with the bloody blade.

“Shh. Don’t be scared.”

“After this, I’m going to carve two words on each side of your face.”

“Here’s what they’ll say—”

“Whore.”

“and Bitch.”

Her laugh rang through the room.

Seamus scrambled over like a dog, crouching in front of Camilla.

“Ms. Mancini, your work’s going to be beautiful. Let me hold her down for you. Don’t want to mess up your aim.”

“Me too, me too. She’s always had terrible handwriting. This is a good lesson for her.”

Eileen grabbed my hair and tilted my face up.

The blade went through my other cheek. Then out.

“Good. Time to write.”

“Let’s see how you plan to seduce Don with this face.”

The tip touched my cheekbone.

She started to press down—

Boom.

The bulletproof door flew open.

A man in a black suit stood in the doorway. Sharp eyes. Cold fury. Like something clawed up from hell.

Enzo Lombardi.

A half-smoked cigarette hung between his fingers. The ember glowed in the dark.

The air went dead.

Camilla dropped the knife. Her face shifted into a sweet, girlish smile.

“Don! You’re here.”

Seamus crawled toward him like a dog, pointing at me.

“Don. A gift from the Romanos. She’s a little difficult, but Ms. Mancini’s already disciplined her.”

Eileen nodded along.

“Yes. All yours. Whatever you want.”

Enzo’s eyes moved past them. Found me in the center of the room.

His cigarette hit the floor.

The menace drained out of him. His whole body locked up.

No one else noticed.

Camilla was still babbling. “Don, this woman dared to say your name. I was about to tear her—”

“Enzo.”

I lifted my head. Blood streaming down my face.

I looked at the man who ran half of New York’s underworld. The Don who’d made men vanish.

And smiled.

“Seven years. And this is how your dogs greet their owner?”
