My Fiancé Betrayed The Wrong Mafia Heiress Chapter 14
No One’s Bride
The next morning, I wake in Luca’s arms.
Sunlight slips through the heavy curtains and falls across the edge of the bed.
The moment I try to sit up, his arm tightens around my waist and pulls me back against him.
“Stay a little longer.”
His voice is rough with sleep. His lips brush the back of my neck.
I push his face away.
“Let go.”
He releases me immediately.
Then, after the briefest hesitation, he takes my hand and presses a kiss to my palm.
I sit up, but the ache in my body makes me pause.
Luca notices.
Guilt flashes across his face, though the satisfaction in his eyes ruins the apology before he says it.
“I’m sorry.”
“You don’t look sorry.”
“I’m sorry I overstepped.”
His fingers skim the marks at my waist.
“I’m not sorry about anything else.”
At least he is honest.
I get out of bed.
“We start training today.”
Luca frowns.
“You need to rest.”
I look back at him.
“Are you questioning my decision?”
“Never.”
He lowers his head obediently, but his gaze remains fixed on me.
“Three o’clock,” I say. “At the training ground.”
The days that follow settle into a brutal routine.
I relearn firearms, combat, tracking, and interrogation. I also begin studying the businesses, alliances, and territory controlled by the Moretti family.
My father does not lower his standards because I am his daughter.
Luca is even less forgiving.
In the training ground, he corners me again and again, forcing me to find the weak point of someone stronger than I am.
The moment training ends, he kneels in front of me, wipes the blood from my blade, and kisses the back of my hand.
During the day, he is my harshest instructor.
At night, he is still the man who can never get enough of me, yet asks permission before every step.
One month after the wedding, my father brings me news of the Carters and the Vales.
The evidence from the ceremony has been turned over to federal investigators. The phone taken from the man who attacked me contains the order from Ethan’s father to silence me.
The Carter family can no longer call the attack the act of a rogue employee.
Ethan is suspended from the prosecutor’s office and placed under investigation. His own family casts him out and tries to blame him for everything, but Daniel’s death, the murdered reporter, and years of illegal payments have already pulled the entire Carter dynasty into the case.
Their allies abandon them.
Their influence in the courts and in politics collapses.
Desperate to protect what remains, the Carters send representatives to the Morettis and ask for protection.
They seem to have forgotten who they tried to kill.
The Vale family falls just as quickly.
Their clinic is under investigation for falsifying my medical record. Their accounts are frozen, their creditors close in, and Moretti companies acquire their debts and assets one by one.
The name they once valued more than their daughters becomes a scandal no one wants to be associated with.
Vanessa loses the protection of both families.
Whether she mourns Daniel, begs Ethan to stay, or finally understands what their affair helped destroy is no longer my concern.
My father asks if I want the details.
I say no.
I do not care whether my adoptive parents regret raising me as an asset.
I do not care whether Ethan finally understands what he sacrificed after losing his career, his family, and the future he chose over me.
Their punishment will not end with one ruined wedding.
But I have no time to stand still and watch them fall.
I have a family to inherit.
An empire to understand.
And hundreds of people waiting to decide whether the lost Moretti heir deserves the ring on her finger.
The doors of the training ground open before me.
Luca waits beneath the lights with a gun in his hand.
When he sees me, he smiles. Then he lowers himself onto one knee and offers me the weapon.
“What do you want to learn today, Serafina?”
I take the gun and lift his chin with its grip, forcing him to look at me.
“How to beat you.”
There is no fear in his eyes.
Only devotion sharp enough to become dangerous.
“As you wish.”
I release him and walk toward the center of the training ground.
His footsteps follow close behind me.
This time, he does not stay behind.
He does not let me run alone.
And I am no longer anyone’s pawn, bride, or sacrifice.
I am Serafina Moretti.
The future head of this family.
And every traitor’s worst nightmare.
