My Fiancé Chose Her So I Chose Myself Chapter 18

Travis’s hand shook the entire time he signed the papers.

TerraGrid kept enough operating capital to survive, but control of the company shifted to a new board appointed by Northstar. The Lakecrest council also removed Travis from his representative seat.

He went from a founder with total control to a professional manager under the dual oversight of the board and council inspectors.

GridForge had long depended on TerraGrid. Once the new management renegotiated its contracts, GridForge lost its credit backing, and its cash flow quickly collapsed.

At last, they paid a visible price for the choices they had made.

They had lost me, and they had lost control of the work that mattered most to them.

The day after the contracts were signed, I was scheduled to return to London.

The follow-up integration in Chicago would be handled by the local team.

When I arrived at the entrance to the airline lounge at O’Hare, I saw Travis sitting in one of the chairs outside.

A boarding pass to New York was resting beside him. The ticket was clearly just a way to get him past security.

His coat was wrinkled, stubble darkened his jaw, and his eyes were bloodshot. He had been waiting a long time.

The moment he saw me, he stood up.

“Natalie.”

His voice trembled.

I gestured for Marissa and the Northstar security staff to remain at a distance.

“What is it, Mr. Vale?”
