My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 11
Rafael’s face fell.
“I’m looking for Helena Ferraro.”
One of the guards seemed to understand.
“Oh, you mean the younger Mrs. Hawthorne?”
“She left the country today. Probably won’t be back for six months.”
Rafael stood frozen.
She had gone abroad the day after her wedding?
She didn’t have to stay and take care of the old man?
His mind was in a complete tailspin.
When he returned to the apartment he and Helena had shared for years, everything felt wrong.
It was the same home.
But without Helena, it felt empty.
He sat there for a long time before the doorbell suddenly rang.
It was Margot.
“Rafael, why aren’t you answering my calls?”
Her eyes were still red-rimmed. The moment she came in, she grabbed his hand.
“Rafael, my father’s creditors are harassing him again. He still wants to send me away. Please, you have to help me.”
Rafael shook her hand off.
“Why should I help you?”
Margot stared at him, confused.
“Rafael, what’s wrong? You weren’t like this before. You said you’d protect me.”
“That was because I thought you saved my life.” Rafael looked at her, his voice like ice. “Margot, the person who donated a kidney to me three years ago wasn’t you.”
All the color drained from Margot’s face.
“I… I didn’t lie to you,” she stammered. “You were the one who thought it was me. I never actually said I was the donor.”
Rafael let out a sudden, humorless laugh.
“You’re right. I was the one who got it wrong.”
“I was an idiot.”
“I couldn’t even tell who was actually good to me, and I ended up treating a stranger like my savior.”
He looked up at Margot.
“Pick a date. We’re filing for divorce.”
“And from now on, don’t come to me with your problems.”
