My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 12

Six months later, I returned to the States.

I never expected to see a familiar face the moment I walked out of the airport.

“Helena.”

Rafael’s eyes were bloodshot as he strode toward me.

“I finally found you. Why didn’t you tell me you were leaving the country? Why did you block me?”

He didn’t even pause for breath. “Three years ago, was it you? Did you donate your kidney to me? Why didn’t you say anything? How many other things have you been hiding from me?”

I hadn’t expected that question.

That was three years ago.

I had no idea how he’d found out.

But at this point, there was no reason to hide it.

“Yes,” I nodded. “It was my kidney.”

“When you got sick, you hid it from me because you didn’t want me to worry. I did the same. I didn’t want you to live with that guilt, so I had the surgery without telling you.”

“I just never expected you to mistake someone else for your donor.”

After the surgery, to keep Rafael from finding out, I’d pretended to go on a work trip and stayed away for three months.

Later, I used heavy concealer all summer to hide the scar on my waist.

I had kept that secret for three years.

Chloe once asked me if I regretted it.

I said no.

When I was twelve, a boy brought me home from the cold and told me he would protect me.

Back then, I truly believed him.

Rafael’s eyes grew redder.

“The nurse told me the donor was in the room next to mine, bed eight.”
